Once a dark and outdated upside-down ski chalet from the 1970s, this home has been transformed into a bright, welcoming retreat ideal for cozy Vermont weekends. Initially, our client’s husband was hesitant—convinced there was no way he would ever purchase it. However, after consulting with ACK, he saw the potential and realized that with thoughtful design choices and minimal construction, the space could be completely reimagined.
By focusing on impactful yet simple updates, we transformed this dated chalet into an inviting weekend escape. The most significant change was relocating the staircase from the center of the main floor to the edge of the dining area, dramatically improving flow and functionality. The kitchen was revitalized with new lighting and natural stone, while the former sauna was converted into a fully functional mudroom—perfect for storing ski gear. Additional enhancements, such as nickel gap paneling, space-saving barn doors, fresh paint, updated lighting, and carefully curated furnishings, brought warmth and personality into the space. The result is a charming mountain getaway that effortlessly blends rustic appeal with modern ease.
